Syria
I don't believe that what is happening in Syria is genocide. I believe that it is just the government trying to stay in power. Genocide is not political they are not getting rid of people for their ethnicity, religion, sex, etc. I believe that the international community should still try and help the people who are being killed because I still feel that they should get aid even though it isn't genocide.

Who's to Blame?
I blame humanity for what happened in Rwanda and genocide in general. I believe this because human are too stupid to learn from their mistakes. Genocide has happened many times before because someone always wants more power than another or doesn't like another. Also the people who started the problem like the Belgians who favored the Tutsis. In addition, the people who stand by are also responsible because they should try and save the people who are being killed even if it isn't "their problem." Humanity should try and make an effort to help each other even if it isn't their country.

Responsibility Worksheet
I believe that the response of one o Hitler's direct subordinates should have been to refuse to do their job and explain why it was wrong to kill Jews. They were some of the main people giving the orders that Hitler wanted so if they didn't do them and said why Hitler may have looked at what he was doing. In addition I believe that the US should have excepted more Jews to come in because they knew what was happening. I also believe they should have speed up the visa process because they knew that people were being killed. I also believe that US troops should have been sent to some of the concentration camps to free the people that were held in them. In response to current genocides that are happening today I believe that the international community should not cover it up and act like nothing is happening. I also believe that they should do their best to figure it out and see if there is any possible way they can help the victims.

Question 3
If I were the editor or director of Defiance I would pick option A. I would pick this option because I feel that it was necessary for them to kill him because he would have gone back to his troops and told them where they were hiding. I also think that by not beating him to death would be showing that they are not like the Germans and that they could have the restraint to be a better people. I think it would show the Jews in a better light. I personally think that revenge doesn't solve anything it just cause some pain and conflict. I also believe that just because you cause the other group harm the things/people that you lost are still gone. Even though it feels good it won't bring them back, what has been done is done and it's up to you weather you decide to be the bigger person.

Question 2
I believe that their tactics is justifiable when there is war time and there is a risk of survival. I believe that they should only take what is needed. I believe that they should have the right to live even if that means they have to fight to live.

Defiance Question 1
I think it is okay for them to steal because it is the situation that is causing them to do so. I believe that they should do what is necessary to live, in desperate times sometimes you have to do desperate things. The are doing what they can to survive.

Stages of Genocide in the Holocaust
One of the stages of genocide that I saw at the museum was classification. This was evident in the star of David that all Jews were forced to wear. They made them wear them in order to identify which people are Jews, they did this so they would know who to discriminate. I also saw evidence of dehumanization when the Nazis had a sign at the pool that said, " no dogs or Jews." This is an example because it is putting them in the same category as an animal. This would make it easier to kill them because they didn't have rights or anything because they didn't really view them as people.

Picture Comparison

The evidence in the picture to the left that shows they had a normal life because they are getting married which is a common thing for couples to do. Also they are smiling and happy like most people would be when getting married. The one on the left is a picture of someone from my family getting married. The two pictures relate because the two couple are celebrating getting married. They are similar because they both are smiling and happy. They are different because in the modern picture had more people and they are dressed up more formally.

Berlin, Germany

Berlin is the capital of Germany, it was home to 160,000 Jews. The city made up 32% of the countries Jewish population. Because so many Jews lived in Berlin at the time it became the center point of Jewish life and culture. In 1933, Jewish stores and businesses were boycotted and many Jewish employees were fired. During Kristallnacht thousands of Jews were killed and many were arrested and put in concentration camps. Between 1941 and 1943 thousands of Jews were deported to ghettos and extermination camps and all Jewish organizations and offices were disbanded. More than 60,000 Jews were deported from Berlin. Berlin's Jewish population dropped to 80,000 between 1933 and 1939.

Classification & symbolization
Question: If you considered the first and second stages of genocide when do you think they become a problem ?
I think they become a problem when people automatically make assumptions about people based on symbols and classes. I think it is a problem because it is such little information to start putting people in groups based on symbols and classes.

I-witness
Edward bedikian looks serious and mean. He probably feels like he lethe girl down by not protecting her. I think that after he told his story he was not taken away and lived through the genocide. Maybe he was able to escape from the country or he stayed in hiding.
